The pear and elderflower martini is an incredibly popular cocktail in my family circle. Let me tell you, variations of this cocktail have been obsessed over for years. YEARS. I don’t know what it is or how it started, but the pear martini has remained a staple in the Williams household for as long as I can remember. Now, I am a whiskey guy at heart however this blog isn’t just about me, it’s about you too. That said, If I’m drinking a pear martini, I’m drinking this one. For a fruity (but not too sweet) martini, it’s pretty good.
The famous cocktail consists of pear vodka, lemon juice, simple syrup, and elderflower liqueur. I’ve tried variations that include lime juice in place of lemon juice and ginger liqueur in place of elderflower liqueur, but this is my favorite variation. The result is a very simple, crisp and refreshing pear martini with simple ingredients.
I use simple syrup (sugar water) in a lot of cocktails. It’s a clear sugar syrup consisting of equal parts water and sugar, melted on the stove. It’s a fool proof cocktail sweetener that easily dissolves in your drink, unlike table sugar. I highly recommend making up a jar of it and storing in the fridge for cocktails such as this. Having simple syrup on hand makes whipping up the pear martini (and many other cocktails) a breeze.
- 2 ounces pear vodka
- ½ ounce elderflower liqueur
- 1 ounce lemon juice
- 1 ounce simple syrup
- sliced pear (for garnish)
- Combine all ingredients in a Boston shaker with a cup of ice. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with pear slices and serve.
